I'm going to attempt to go against the grain and view them all on the merits they have.

Storyline, gameplay, nostalgia, cutscenes, and depth.

Storyline: The best game, as far as storyline, was COM. Second best was KH1. Third best was KH2.

Nostalgia: The best game, as far as nostalgia, was KH1. Second best was KH2. Third best was COM(and, even then, I still get nostalgia thinking about COM).

Gameplay: The best game, as far as gamplay, was KH2. Second best was KH1. Third best was COM(can't stand the cards).

Cutscenes: The best game, as far as cutscenes, was KH2. Second best was COM. Third best was KH1.

Depth: The best game, as far as depth, was KH1. Second best was COM. Third best was KH2.

So, take that as you will.

It's a different type of gameplay but essential if you want the whole story. I think it's worth getting.

I like the depth of KH2 but there's a lot of things I miss from KH.

For me, I think Kingdom Hearts had more depth than Kingdom Hearts 2. Kingdom Hearts is about the loss of innocence and it has a clear objective. The plot isn't bouncing all over the place, and the end is truly heartbreaking. The boss fights were more difficult, giving the sense of accomplishment.

But, KH2 stuffed itself with characters, didn't even start out with the main character, introduced some new interesting ideas, and got Sora back on the island with his friends...but, to me, the end makes me feel extremely happy in KH2. But there's something somber about KH1's depth...and I have to say I loved COM. Somewhat difficult boss battles with Sora still not knowing the whole deal about things. And the story was just perfect.

I think KH3 has to be a combination of those things. I think it should be a little difficult and have a bittersweet ending. An ending where there is no turning back. There is no sequel on the horizon. Haunting music in the background as Sora faces his last battle. That's what I want.

I want a Hollow Bastion like it once was...a veritable labyrinth of darkness.
I want a story that tugs at the heartstrings.

I want perfection.

I miss the trinities and also the surprise of the new worlds. Yes KH2 had a few new ones but I'd seen some of them on trailers. In fact, the only one I didn't know about was Tron's world. Even if I hadn't seen the spoilers though, I think it was a lot more adventurous with the worlds in the first KH. I mean, look what they did to Atlantica.

I loved the first plot too but I think Riku's struggle comes into COM and KH2 more. I think this adds depth to the whole story. It's not just Sora's story any longer.

Let's face it, without KH there would be no KH:COM or KH2

psh.... hollow bastian/radient garden in kh2 kicked kh1's butt... all because of the 1000 heartless battle... that battle was fun.. i got 3 levels during that...

Kingdom Hearts 1, it was far superior then Kingdom Hearts 2.

Kingdom Hearts story was much better then the second one IMO, it showed some of Sora's flaws(i still respect Sora in the first game) and yet in the second one he is a very flat main character that can't do anything wrong.

Gameplay in Kingdom Hearts 1 was SO much BETTER. I do not know what they were thinking with KH2, they took out all of the good parts of Kingdom Hearts. I mean all you had to do was button smash and you could basically beat anything. Even the reaction command all you had to was button smash it, took no actual skill. Plus nerfing the magic to where it was basically useless to use was very disappointing.

I loved the characters in Kingdom Hearts much better, Riku and Sora were so much better in KH1, i could actually understand them.

And of course KH2 has better graphics then KH1, it came out 4 years later :/

I will also say i love KH CoM, Marluxia=awesome.

In my personal opinion i think that kh2 was a bit of a failure. . it really didnt have much of an epic mystery to it besides finding out about roxas and the members of organization 13 and you found out about that in the begining. No i cant argue that kh2 had better gameplay kh2 had a better gameplay fighing with more combos and i loved the drive with the four different valors. but it lacked a story to it and was WAY to easy to beat wasnt even a challenge i beat it in less than a month. With kh1 i dont think you can beat it from top to bottom the story of it was absoultly spectacular. . it absoultly made me fall in love with the game and had no clue about it until my friend got it . . . like other people said its more of a challegne and there is a more of a feeling of and accomplishment when you beat then kh2. . .

I liked KHII's story too.
The battle with Riku/Ansem SoD in Hollow Bastion(in KH1) was just awesome that it overpowered the other battles in KHII.
Except for the one where you fight Xemnas with Riku and Sora. :D
So I guess it's more like a tie between KH1 and KHII, also because I've never played Re:CoM yet. =/
