The year is 2455. Scientific space travel technology is evolving at fever pitch. At this rate, a first contact scenario is becoming more and more evident. Questions are rising: Who will we contact first? Will they be friendly? Or will they be hostile?
The question was answered on June 14, 2450.
A large space station materialized in orbit around the earth, beaming a cryptic message in a foreign tongue to every sensor node on Earth. We weren't able to decipher it in time.
June 5th, 2450 saw the use of this space station, which has been named Final Judgement.
Four large mirrors were put into orbit around the planet. For a while, we wondered what they were for. Our questions were answered with Armageddon.
In a few brutal moments, Earth was plunged into massive global warming sped by a sudden discharge of pure energy into the North and South poles. Cities, towns, technology- everything was obliterated by a pair of 40-foot walls of water encasing all land except for a small strip of land around the equator, 40 miles wide, that encircles the earth, nicknamed the Double Forty.
In recent years, the earth froze over, encasing what was left of our natural resources, except, of course, for the Double Forty. Now, two separate factions- The UNITED EARTH PROTECTORATE, a group of ragtag soldiers, scientists and civilians grouped together to better the survival of the human race, and the COALITION OF FREE NATIONS, who lay claim to as much land as they can control to survive long enough to escape- vie for control of the Double Forty.
Whose side will YOU be on?
Welcome, friends, newcomers, to the world of the future- 455 years in the future, to be exact. Due to the recent flash-freezing of our world, we are currently fighting a war in which time and eachother are our enemies.

Slang Terms used in Band of Heroes
This is a list of several common terms that will be used throughout Band of Heroes.
Neu-Up: Sling term for Neural Uplink Reciever. A small reciever inserted into the base of a soldier's neck, allowing him/her to link directly to any friendly computer systems. Used primarily for simulations and downloading/uploading information directly to the soldier's central nervous system.
Neu-Net: Neural Net. A shorter term for the Neural Net Uplink, an information repository stored in the soldier's brain.
VR Sim: Virtual Reality Simulation. Used in combination with the Soldier Neu-Up and Neu-Net, stimulating the five senses while using advanced technology to put a soldier 'to sleep' and form images on the soldier's iris representing live fire combat situations.
LMPV-M-1 'Wolverine': A UEP light vehicle. Armed with twin 40mm grenade launchers, a semi dome-shaped hovering scout/light combat vehicle capable of being outfitted with several combat kits to operate as an APC, an assault medium, cargo transport and reconaissance vehicle.

Amanda:
You awaken in the half-buried barracks amongst the ice outcroppings covering half of the Double Forty's Contracted Mining Zone. You've been pulling garrison duty here for several months now, along with about eight to ten other soldiers of varying age, ethnicity and gender. You've been begging for action for months.
Well, today you're gonna get it.
But you don't know when, do you?

Trey:
You are garrisoned in a small area along an underground river where a popular trade route flows underground. So far you've collected rumors about a small contingent of CFN troopers in the area, but it's mostly hearsay from the topside bar, collected from sodden war vets with loose lips, clouded eyes and boundless confusion brought on by strong drink.
You've many wishes to believe this is true, and more wishes that your brother's assailant is amongst them, but recent patrols have brought back nothing.
That's all about to change.

Amanda Aaronson:
All of a sudden, an LMPV-M-1r 'Wolverine' plows past the front gate of the mining facility. A few soldiers climb out of it, the lead sprinting over to one of the soldiers, who nods and runs off to Command.
A few minutes later, alarms are blaring throughout the base.
Trey Rush:
Boredom broke when a SPTBA-M-1 "Cerberus", a notorious UEP artillery platform, barges down one of the entrance tunnels and skids to a stop. The driver climbs out and hits the 'Priority Alarm' button near the speakers. The whole base is put on alert, men and women scattering to various strategic positions around the base perimeter.
Garret Codbry:
There is a small row of concrete trenches dug into the Old Mombassa garrison facility, and right now men are filing from the pillboxes and bunkers all across the city and into the trench systems.
"What the hell is going on?" You ask one of the soldiers.
"CFN Assault Force coming in to take the city, and the 9th ID has been assigned to defend the city at all costs. Let's hope you got some luck on your side with that boombox, Codbry."

((I'll take that as a yes.))
Trey looked around, and ran to his usual hotspot. He layed down low, is hiding spot on top of a building with sufficient coverage from all sides. He loaded his rifle, and took aim. "Alright...bring 'em on..."

Amanda ran through the facility, trying to get outside. She also looked for the officers, wondering what was going on. She had had a lot of military and combat experience from her father, who had been in the military, but unfortunately, he had been captured by the enemy, and killed.

Garret's usual calm face turned serious in seconds. "Luck has nothing to do with it." He said, watching as people walked past. "Gather the forces. Do we have a report of how many?" He wanted to know, staring at the soldier who had told him the news first. His mind already played through different scenarios, balancing all the outcomes, all the stragedies, and he already had a count of how many soldiers were able to fight well since the last battle. Maybe luck did have something to do with it. We had few able men.

Amanda continued to run past the confused and frightened workers, trying to escape the chaotic scene. She had to get out of here, before something bad happened. She suddenly tripped over a small black box. She bent down, lookin at it, and gasped. Someone had put a bomb in the facility. She could either dispose of the bomb, or get everyone else out. The timer only had ten minutes left on it, and she had to decide, before it was too late.
Batosai
09-22-2007, 04:18 PM
As Amanda stared at the small, destructive bomb, a UEP combat tech wearing a large, rigid frame backpack sprinted past. Along the way, he tripped and fell down on the ground, skidding to a halt nearby. He happened to see the bomb and pushed her out of the way.
"Just get outta the way." The tech dropped his pack on the ground, which expanded rapidly into a pad on the ground. The pad produced several arms and appendages, each one holding a different set of tools.
"Behold; the JOATMON in action." The tech stands back, and the arms begin to whir and buzz at a surprising rate. Within moments, the bomb is nothing but a set of components on the ground.
~~~
Meanwhile, Trey took his position on top of a small barracks, scrunching himself between the cave cieling and the roof of the barracks.
The first few soldiers from the CFN (distinct from the others by their patterned grey/black/brown/green camouflage combat armor) storm into the facility, holding their weapons out in front and firing. At least one UEP soldier has been hit already. His radio crackles to life.
"I need a sniper to hit the gate winch and shut the main gates, NOW!"
~~~
At the same time, Garret and the rest of the 9th made their way into the trenches just as the CFN came into range. Guns alolng the trench circuit spat lead and fire at the wielder's command.

Amanda dropped the bomb, and fell to one knee. She stood, shaking slightly. "T-thanks," was all she managed to say, and it came out in a frightened croak. She was shaking uncontrollably, unable to believe how close that had been. When the man came, there had only been three minutes left.

Garret was quick in his orders, and the few numbers they had broke off into numerous trenches, along with the forward party that Garret himself lead. The numbers that the enemy had were surprisingly small, for he had been expecting something much larger. All the same, he made sure that there was no way they could lose. As he told him the orders, a small pattern could be seen if somebody had been in the sky; a half circle hidden away from the enemies eyes as they all headed into the battle. Garret's plan was simple; destory as many numbers as they could before giving their positions away. Those fighting already are forcing them into his trap.

"No problem. Tech. 'Swhat I do." The technician moves away towards the rampart, holding only his pistol; after all, Technicians only carry light weapons.
~~~
"Wolverines and a Cerberus Unit inbound from the west, and three Skyhawks from the south! The cavalry is incoming!" The lead says. The CFN are now drawing disturbingly close to the trench system, however, and at least seven to eight members of the 9th are drawing extremely close to death. Medics are doing their best, but they are stretched thin amongst the four units.
Alarms continued to blare, and Amanda headed to the spot where she had seen the lead officer. However, he was gone. Amanda stood there, wondering whether or not she should run.
Garret's face had a complete look of calculation. "We only need to hold out for a little longer. Pull out all our troops from the left. Bring them to power our group, and we will thrust them back for a moment. If any get through the left opening, send the wounded that are able to hold weapons away from the bunkers. That is are last resort, though. For now, we must live." Garret spoke with a quiet voice, for he only wanted one to hear and follow orders. The one he spoke to did what he was told. Leaving Garret now, he breathed heavy as they marched forward. The sounds of fighting were clashing in his ears, the worst sound he knew.
Garret watched the battle intently, in the battle yet away from it. He had his plans, but they were barely holding up. The numbers were to big, and they seem to be having more luck than usual. But his troops were hurt, losing formation regardless of his calls, and being overrun. This wasn't good. But, being him, he would not lose to anyone without fighting to the end of his days. It was a simple, death defying plan, but then again, that was just how he was every day. Breaking his own ranks, he ran straight forward, into the heart of the battle. His men soon followed, completely trusting him. Seeing as his weapon was a different type, Garret was a master in fighting techniques using fists and other things. So he was darting between them, and his idea was in fact simple. It was to find the lead commander, kill him, and slowly break them up from the inside. From the formation that the enemy was using, he could guess they had a protection around the commanding officer. Kill him, get his men inside, and they slowly erode the walls until we can overtake them.
The gate clunked shut loudly, the crashing echo resounding through the large cave. The battle was over soon after.
~~~
Garret's decisive actions brought a fast end to the battle, killing the enemy commander with relative ease.
~~~
Amanda's thoughts were answered when an LMPV-M-1t hovered to a stop nearby, its hexagonal transport 'train' towed behind it.
"C'mon Anderson, get in!" The base's CO is beckoning from the back. You gratify his call and hop into the rear car.
~~~
A blinding flash of light is felt by Garret, Troy and Amanda as the VR Sim Neu-Up disconnects itself from their Neu-Up receptors. A figure dressed in a white UEP military commander's uniform stands before them. The telltale contrail of cigar smoke trails from a half-burnt butt in his left hand. His grey/black hair and goatee are neatly trimmed and stowed beneath a white rigid cap.
"Soldiers, at attention!" The commander barks.
Namine, Chooser of Light

Amanda sat in the car, silent, afraid to ask any questions. So she didn't. She simply sat, waiting to know where they were headed.

Garret kept silent, but held attention. His breathing was slightly faster, for it had been quite a battle. He waited for his next words. He stood tall, and powerful like. His posture shook slightly though; he had taken one wound from the enemy. A gash across his leg was held tight with a strong bolt of cloth.

(err... You guys were all just disconnected from a simulation. Amanda, you're not on the 'train' anymore, Trey, your actions were safe as long as it was a compulsive reaction and having nothing to do with the sim, and Garret, you're not wounded XD)
The three soldiers standing at such rigid attention seemed to please the general, as he stood there confidently, took a long drag on his cigar and tapped the ashes onto the white linoleum floor.
"At ease, soldiers. Now, as i'm sure you all know, The Coalition of Free Nations have been stepping up their offensives as of late, and you have all been pulled for the same unit of the military, the United Earth Protectorate 1st Expeditionary Force, 44th Infantry Unit."

OOC: lol easy mistake. your words confuse me. T_T
IN: Garret nodded, still silent. His face was expressionless as he stared at the commander. He awaited yet more powerful, booming words from the man. He looked at the cigar, he almost felt like having a puff, but he decided against it. It wasn't any good for him.

The commander pressed on.
"The First Expeditionary Unit is a prestigious division of the UEP military charged with assaulting CFN positions and gathering intelligence about them. And you have been annexed from your various units to join them. Dismissed." With that, the general turns and leaves the VR Sim room.
KH2_FinalSora

Trey sighed again. "This stupid training is getting annoying." He turned around, reassembling his gun.

Garret simply shrugged. "You know the General though. Always trying to make us mess up. He's never going to be happy. But, it was at least good practice. Not as good as a real battle though." He spoke quietly, but his words reached the others all the same. He was now leaning on a wall; he was not quite ready to leave the room yet. He looked at Trey, who's back was turned. "They have been putting us through more training lately. A lot more. You know what that means, right?"
OOC: I think it was a simulation I suppose.... we were in different situations... then we all came back to the same room. Thats all I got.
KH2_FinalSora

"Means one of two things. One, they think we're getting worse and that we should train more to keep our minds of of a losing war, or two..." Trey turned around and looked at the other man. "We're going to be on the frontline."

09-28-2007, 02:14 PM
Garret nodded, his hands in his pockets. "That about covers it." He replied, closing his eyes. Now he was deep in thought. Have we really gotten this far? It was a troublesome thought. As they got better, the more dangerous everything becomes. He scratched the back of his head, gently kicking the wall with the back of his foot before opening his eyes again.

As if commanded by Garret's actions, a young soldier, probably fresh out of basic, sprinted into the room. His ID identified him as Private Third Class Vincenzo Marezetti, of the 6th Ranger Platoon. He is a scrap of a man, standing at 6'1" and with high cheekbones and sunken blue/grey eyes.
"Attention soldiers. Garret Codbry, Amanda Anderson and Troy Rush are to report to the vehicle dock. If you would please follow me." With that, Marzetti turned on his heel and walked out of the room, the motion sensitive doors opening for him.

Garret mumbled something that was inaudible, and followed, not looking back to see if the others were following. His hands were limp beside him, swaying slightly as if he didn't want to waste the energy to hold them straight. He walked slowly, or at least, slower than the man they followed.

(Trey, alright, alright... God...)
Vincenzo didn't lose any speed as Garret and Trey followed him through the corridors of the base they were currently in. After navigating the beehive of tunnels that made up the UEP fortress, the threesome eventually arrived at the vehicle bay, where a quartet of Scorpions, large, eight-wheeled and heavily armored vehicles sat idling.
"Very well. Trey, Garrett, you have the left front Scorpion. You enter through the side hatchway. Find a seat and hold on." With that, Vincenzo stepped off the small elevated platform and climbed into his own Scorpion.

The convoy rolls out of the vehicle bay and on to the icy road in short order, with Trey and Garret's Scorpion in the lead.
After a few minutes of travel, one of the soldiers approaches Garret and shakes his hand. His nameplate reads 'Anderson'.

Trey heard the man introduce himself to Garret, but didn't respond himself. Not my buisness. Besides...I want to know where we're headed. Trey got up slowly, and headed towards the front. "How far are we from the drop point?"
4thkeybladeholder
10-02-2007, 01:57 AM
Garret looked up for a moment, blinking, then nodded. "Garret." Was his only response. He didn't care much for talking at the moment. He was more interested in Trey's interest in the drop off point. That was because he wanted to know as well. Therefore, his full attention was on the answer, which was able to travel up to his seat in the back. Which was good for him. He didn't want to move.
Batosai
10-02-2007, 09:59 PM
The man introduced as '88 Fingers Anderson' was quick to reply to Trey's question.
"Well, according to the GPS readout, we have maybe six more miles following the Ice Highway before we arrive on station." Anderson looked out the small porthole, then continued.
"Make that ten miles. Road washed out and we'll have to take a detour past the old Industrial Camp."

Garret thought for a moment, being silent. Finally, he spoke. "The old industrial camp?" He asked with a questioning tone. His eyes were closed, and he was leaning in his seat lazily. He didn't say anything more, and it was hard to see if he was expecting an answer or not.
Batosai
10-03-2007, 10:05 PM
Whether or not Codbry expected an answer, Anderson forged a path towards one anyways.
"Yeah, the old industrial camp. Formerly used for digging the trench systems that were used to move the pipes to the water purification plants outside Cronus. Went bust back in '44 when the trenches collapsed and put the three belowground stories out of comission."
The convoy is now moving along a derelict path in the ice, the small studs on the tires leaving tiny indents in the ice as the Scorpions lead the way. The form of the main building of the industrial camp is visible in the distance, a black blotch on the crimson sky, still several miles away. The backdrop would be beautiful were it not for the fact that the terrain was all ice and no plant life.
The main economy of plant food is made up of hydroponically grown fruits and veggies maintained in various 'Hot Facs' around the UEP cities, Hot Facs meaning 'Hot Facilities', a fancy way of saying heated buildings dedicated to maintaining what remained of the plant and animal species archived from Old Earth. The economy has since depended on DUS mines (Deep Under Shield Mines), another fancy way of saying mines that dig under the ice shield and hollow out spaces for the explicit purpose of digging farther down into the frozen crust of the earth to harvest natural resources to fuel the other facets of UEP life.

Trey lowered his head. Like it matters where we're headed. It's just another battleground. Just another graveyard for the claiming. Trey closed his eyes for a moment, remembering the horror of searching for his brother in the frozen snow.
They had called a temporary truce, to gather and give proper burial to the dead. Trey had searched for hours on end, and still searched even after tha battle had ensued. When he had finally found his brother, it had been a full 12 hours. Trey's brother had been dead long before that, and his body had been frozen over.
Have I ever been the same since then? Is there any night I haven't dreamt about his frozen face, forever looking on in pain and agony? Will I ever find the man who killed him? The man who nearly killed me....

The convoy draws closer to the Industrial camp, a shadow of its former glory. The collapsed dorms and contractor's huts you've been passing for a while have finally given way to the main complex; a sprawling, labyrinthine complex of spires extending to the heavens flanking a low building half buried beneath the ground. Through the semi-opaque ice, you can make out the three-story underground complex, away from which lead a few long tunnels.
Suddenly, the road gives way in front of your Scorpion! The driver turns the front axles 90 degrees and turns the truck in a 180 degree arc, facing it the other way.
"What the hell?" One of the soldiers says.
"Stay away from the hatches! It could be a break-up!" The pilot yells, but it's too late. Just as one of the soldiers opens a hatch, the vehicle pitches too far to one side and cracks through the weakened ice, now perched precariously on the ice road.

Trey froze. "No. One. Moves." He slowly got up, making as little movement as possible. "I'm not going to die today..."

OOC: ....Zach, your going to be thrown off the stairs tomorrow. yeah. lol
IN: Garret grimaced, but regardless of the situation, snapped back, "Dont need to tell us twice."
But, even though he was seemingly frightened, he was in fact trying to cook up something to get them back onto less... shaky circumstances.

OOC: I hope you're not serious about that o_O
BIC:
The man hanging in the doorway is nowhere near holding still. The space the Scorpion is hanging on, at least partially, is about 40 feet tall and ends in a lot of sharp, pointy shards of ice.
The man in the doorway is swinging around, hanging from the doorframe by one hand, yelling, screaming and casting aspursions at fate for swinging him a curveball of this magnitude.
"GOOD GOD, SOMEONE GET ME BACK INSIDE!"

"Nobody move unless I tell you to." Trey thought for a moment, and spoke calmly, "Does anyone have a rope?"

The blank stares that meet Trey's question are answer enough. The pilot, however, does have a length of fiber cord that can be used to lash together broken parts of the vehicle, which should be long enough to reach the man dangling from the doorway.
If only someone could get to him...

Trey cursed silently. "Alright..." He took a deep breath, and sighed. "Can anyone reach the pilot?" Trey already knew the answer.

(Threats to my personal safety on 4th's part have ceased, so i'll restart this for a bit.)
As Trey said this, one brave soul tipped forward off of the bench and activated magnetic clamps on his boots. He slipped across the floor and took the fiber cord, carefully tying a loop into the end and tossing it out the door. With his free hand, the dangling man caught the fiber cord and let go of the door. The man with the cord pulled the man who fell out back into the door and pulled it shut with a deft movement of the cord once the man was in.
The action took less than two minutes but seemed to drag on forever.

Trey smiled, but didn't move. "Good job." It was all he could say.

The soldier nods.
"Can you get to the port-side door? I'd try but I don't dare going anywhere or i'll throw off the balance and we'd all die. There's a scorpion behind us that's been upgraded with a winch. Maybe they can help."

Trey nodded, and moved very carefully, and agonizingly slow to the port side. "Alright then...anyone else want to try at the balance scale of hell?"

One of the soldiers sighs audibly and says something along the lines of 'Just open the fucking door'.

((Hey, watch the language please. I don't care personally, but the mods do.))
Tre smirked and opened the door, yelling out to the next tank for help. It had been a bad day, and it seemed it might get worse by the passing minute.

The next Scorpion in line pulls up alongside you and shoots its cable out. The cable attaches to the tow-hook on the rear of your Scorpion, and the craft pulls you out of the hole. And not a moment too soon, either- as soon as you were pulled away, the small flap of ice that was holding you on the surface broke away.

Trey mimicked the ripple of sighs that passed through the Scorpian. He walked over and sat down back in place. "Anything else? Maybe a missle or two?"

"Don't jinx us now, Rush." The pilot, whose nametag reads 'Pendleton' turns around and looks out the open door.

Pendleton cocks his eyebrow.
"What the heck is an Eta? Some kind of hors'd'ourves?"

"It's army for 'when the hell are we going to get to the destination.'" Trey said back, irritated.

"Well, sorry about that but it sounded less like ETA and more like eater..." Pendleton looks at his radar.
"About a day. Get some rest."

The convoy proceeded deep into the night in silence; everyone anxious to catch a few minutes of sleep before their lives are plunged into chaos.
