In each Final Fantasy, the Summoning appears in a different way. Which one was your favorite?
- Simple Summoning (FF to FFV) - These were simple summoning spells.
- Espers (FFVI) - Espers were creatures that could be equiped (their physical form was a small crystal) and called in battles. They attack and vanish. They also teached the characters magic.
- Materia (FFVII) - These summons were equiped in the swords and armour, and called in battles. They attack and vanish. They could also be leveled up, to increase damage.
- Guardian Forces (FFVIII) - These were given to the characters and could learn a lot of different abilities, like Magic Refinering and special abilities like Recover and Darkness. When called in battle, until they are summoned, they will take all damage done to the character that summoned them. After that, they attack (you could increase the damage done with the interactive ability "Boost") and vanish.
- Eidolons (FFIX) - Only Dagger and Eiko could use these. They were trapped as abilities inside acessories that could be equiped by the characters. They attack and vanish. Some of them, like Carbuncle and Fenrir, had different attacks that could be chosen by equiping special acessories to their caster (Ex. If you equip Eiko with the Mayden Prayer, Fenrir will attack with a Wind-based ability called Millenial Decay).
- Aeons (FFX) - Complete control over your summons. Do you need more to like this? Yuna was the only character that could summon Aeons. When summoned, you gain complete control over them, like a party member. This feature increased FFX's list of controlable party members from 7 (human party members) to 17 (human party members + 10 Aeons). And they could also learn different abilities by use of items.
- Summoning Job (FFXI) - A job you could earn in this game gives you the ability to summon beasts with huge power. One of the most respectable jobs in the game.
- Espers (FFXII) - You had to fight them to earn them. After that, you could control them in battle.

So, post and explain why.

I think a lot of people's favourite were Materia, and it's certainly one of my favourites too.

Although I liked FFVI, the Espers were too crucial to the storyline, and you couldn't do as much with them as I'd've liked.

I really liked the Boost feature of Guardian Forces, and the Equipable commands in FFVIII, and some of the summons were absolutely stunning. But then Eidolons in FFIX blew me away. FFVII and IX were my favourite FFs and summoning was one of the reasons why.

Having complete control over your Aeons in FFX was an awesome feature, and I also had a lot of fun fighting them, but they were somewhat limited compared to Final Fantasy X-2 (which you seem to have forgotten, even though they transformed instead of summoned).

I've yet to play FFXII as it's not out in the UK yet and I've only played FFXI briefly.

I would have to say that the best for graphics was FFX and X-2, the best for summoning was FFIX, although I wish they'd kept the Boost feature from FFVIII to make it, in my opinion, an almost flawless game. Very difficult to choose though lol.

I really liked the Boost feature of Guardian Forces
Honestly, Riku? I thought that was such a button basher, it hurt my thumbs, lol. Kinda like Kingdom Hearts 2. So I never bothered with summoning on 8. But I liked the Aeons on FF10. This is what I used to do: Got Anima in overdrive by itself, then got Yuna into overdrive so then I could unleash Oblivion two times, total obliteration!

I remember doing that with Yojimbo once, I think it was against Seymour or something. I got Yojimbo to do Wakizashi to spend one of the Overdrives, but at the second one, he did Zanmato. ^.^

It was a shame you had to pay so much for Yojimbo lol

OH God I hated Yojimbo! In the three times I have beaten this game i have only used him once. lol. I think he was such a wasted aeon. lol. Can't stand him, but he looks cool.

The Aeons were the best. You had contol over them and their attacks unlike ff8.

i like final fantasy x aeons and ffxii espers first i like x's aeons because cause you could control them and they had spectacular finishing moves (they all had that but i liked aeons) i like espers because you have to fight them first they make you stronger without you just getting them

My favorite way to use Summoning was in Final Fantasy VIII, because all characters were eligible to use it and the boost sequence was a great extra. I also found it very useful on VIII how Tonberry had a shop which saved travelling around.

I thought the Aeons were the best. Having complete control over them is what I like.

Seeing how I'm almost done with FFXII I like the espers as roxas said you had to defeat them to obtain them.. Which makes you stronger then having them there is even better :)

I liked the Aeons. They look cool (both quality and style), they could replace your human party in a tight situation and completely turn a battle around or give you time to escape, and you could control them (Plus they have one of the cooler names).

(If you use Auron's Entrust ability, you can summon Anima with the overdrive 3 times in a row, if even possible to be necessary, and I remember using an ability with a similar effect with Tidus or Rikku.)

Final Fantasy VIII because I loved fighting them before getting to use them and they helped a lot especially Odin and the boost was pretty cool.
