View Full Version : Christmas Mood: WRONG!?

Ok, so, here's the oh-lovely-story for you guys to debate. First off, this is based off someone complained to be about, going "That's just so unfair, there shouldn't be a Christmas Announcement on the forums, there are other religions here! WRONG! WRONG!".

...

So, OK. Dude. I say people should open their eyes. If having a Christmas Announcement here is wrong, then what? The whole world is wrong? Kingdom Hearts and Disney are wrong? All the malls that feature a little Christmas mood are politically incorrect? I mean, even if there are other religions, going "Merry Christmas, guys!" with all the Christmas mood going around in the forums AND the World, it doesn't mean we're degrading other religions with it, does it? I don't think so. I mean, if that were politically incorrect or unfair, wouldn't the Government have fixed this already? Wouldn't they be banning malls? I mean, even if they might be Christians themselves, there are other kind of State Admins. But is every Christmas show on TV banned? Is the San Francisco big Christmas tree politically incorrect? Does anyone care that much about it and takes it as if it was a sin or something? I say, sheesh, c'mon! What the hell!

At least an 95% of the active members in these forums had something related to Christmas on their signatures in the past days. But man, someone coming to me and going "NO, SHUN, THAT'S SO UNFAIR I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! STUPID OVERSEER!".

...

I'm like, whoa. Are you for real? If people have something against it, they never actually said so. We can start creating Hannukah Announcements too, for all we really care. These forums are public to anyone at all, but because a Staff member included "Merry Christmas!" on an announcement about Forum Clans, someone makes a whole drama of "unfair unfair unfair it's unfair for people of other religions omg!" and says that us the Overseers are a piece of crap and unfair and stuff.
Dude, we just went "Merry Christmas." Get your head exploring all the Christmas mood going here and IN the World, even though if it's only "Christian". I say, dude, this is life. Get real. Life's life. A moth won't be a butterfly. It's how things are taken by society, unfair or fair, that's how people go along, and no one actually complains about it.

So I say, what the heck, posting a forum Announcement going "Merry Christmas! I'd just like to say, join the brand new Forum Clans blah blah blah..." is a reason for creating a whole ilogical brawl regarding the "unfairness of specifying christianity?".

Dude, it's not like we gave Christians a lollipop.

Thoughts? :/
Sorry I'm a little pi**ed right now.

Christmas is one of the most popular Holidays, if you open a door for someone at the store, they will most likely say "Thank you, Merry Christmas!" Because, the Holiday is either there, or about to come. Christmas is the most advertised, "Come to Macy's Christmas Holiday sale, 50% off for the right Christmas gifts."

It is said, because it is the most popular, people do not say it to bash any other religions, it is just very, very, very popular, if someone said Merry Christmas to a Jewish person, they aren't trying to spit in their face, they just say it because of the mood that has clouded over the Decmeber month.

i don't see what the big fuss is about really..so he said "merry christmas" wow thats really gonna hurt other religions....its not unfair..its worldwide..even tho some people don't celebrate christmas, they still go out and say merry christmas to other people and are part of the holiday. and i was one of the people on here who had something in my sig about christmas..even RKM had a christmas saying his sig and he isn't christian. ( sorry for uhh including you Jihad XD) so i don't see what the big deal is..and its not like the staff member was only directing it to ONE religon only..he was saying it to everyone here on the forums :/

Wow man for real...how ignorant can you get, we've been celebrating Christmas for hundreds of years, and for hundreds of years people have decided whether or not to celebrate it themselves. Why make it a big deal, the majority of the population celebrate it, either get in line, or stick to yourself, if you don't have the will power to just look the other way than you have no business breathing.

Was that necessary? (the stupid Overseer part) I personally think that if you want your religion to be known, kindly state it. Instead of the whole baby not fair not fair thing I know that there are 10 and 11 yr olds here, but gosh! Sorry if I came out harsh

K H P

Exactly, RKM is Muslim, and because of so much Christmas spirit he put it, it's such a big Holiday people can't help but to feel the spirit. If people were actually offended, that is strange because I didn't see any, "Yay! 8 day countdown!" for Hannukah. Merry Christmas was put in the Announcement, because he celebrates Christmas, there was a thread yelling Merry Christmas, so it's only natural.

If you celebrate Christmas, you are going to say "Merry Christmas!"

I dont think that the announcement was wrong in any way. Many of us celebrate Christmas, even some Jewish people and people of other religions celebrate Christmas as well, I'm not trying to slash other religions and or races, but I'm just going by people that I know, and things that I have seen. However, I feel that everyone should be entitled to enjoy and announce their holiday spirits as well, I mean they're just as important as well. However, if that was the case, someone should have contacted the administrators, and said something. They can't expect one who is of a certain religion, and celebrates a certain holiday to just guess when and how to announce a certain holiday that they don't celebrate.

Like me for example, I have no clue when Hanakah or Kwanza is celebrated, so how would I know when to announce such a holiday, I would have to be told by a member who celebrates that certain holiday. So there is nothign really to argue about here, just a minor mistake in communication I guess. No religion is better than any other, and nor is any holiday better than any other, its just about celebration and pride in your culture. That's my view on this.

Yes. That was the first line. But the post was announcing another thing mainly, the Forum Clans.

Listen, Peter, people have different cultures, and if the creator of the Announcement is Christian by logic he would go, "Merry Christmas!". It's just what any Christian human being would do in my opinion. Whenever you are tuned about any other celebrations of any kind, Private Message me, and I cross my heart that I will announce it as well. But you treated this as if that announcement was a sin to other religions, which was, in my opinion, a little exaggerated. And calling me crap and a loser because of it, as well. Sorry if I cursed, man, but things like that get me pissed. I curse all the time, sadly.

Merry Christmas is just the most common thing to say in Christmas. Why? Because maybe christian people celebrate it. And they have the total right of going "Merry Christmas", and any other kind of religion should not feel degraded by those words.

why would you complain about christmas spirit? It's part of my life to find out what really happened back then and by doing that, i bash christianity, no offence to anybody. But let's see...

i got a merry christmas from 2 jewish people, 4 wiccan people, and then a whole bunch of christians. It really doesn't matter.

plus, one of those wiccans even got me a chirstmas present. It doesn't matter if you want to celebrate the meaning behind it, but it's an excuse to give gifts to people and to make them happy, not to complain about that you're not christian (which i'm not) and getting offended by people saying 'merry christmas'

Another point, overall, Christmas has become a nationwide holiday: why? Because of the ablity of people of other faiths to give gifts for absolutely no reason. It's lost all it's meaning to those outside of the christian faith. it's now a holiday to celebrate life and friends. Not just Jesus. And with this completely disreguarding the ancient meaning for the holiday.

Saying Merry Christmas is not in any way intended to offend anyone, its just embracing a holiday. I dont see why anyone should take offense to it, I could see someone getting offended if someone said if one holiday is better than the other, but that in this case didn't take place, this is getting way out of hand.

Yea I think whoever complained might have had a problem with the whole Jesus thing

at the same time I don't blame some people who go on rampages because there are times in society where people are pressured to believe certain things just to fit in and get along with everyone

like before..there used to be no freedom of religion whatsoever D:
Now there is but at the same time, that hint of having the pressure to use a certain religion still exists

I'm not saying I feel pressured but I think others do ^^;;

(hey jessss tlak to meeee =D)

Saying Merry Christmas really shouldn't offend people lots of people celebrate christmas, even non-christians.(and Sora520,i made the "what presents did you get for Christmas?" thread,im sorry if that offended you in any way).

i dont see how you can get offended by the phrase " Merry Christmas "

today the phrase doesnt even relate to the religious holiday in which jesus christ was born. but to most people it means Happy holidays, just to be "Merry" and happy and junk

getting offended by someone greeting you to have a happy day is down right ridiculous, no matter what religon you are, weather your jewish or athesist or if you celebrate kwanza.

and if people are complaining, how come i dont see the " Happy Hanukkuh" or " Happy Kwanza" in those signatures of those who are complainin about posting a "Merry christmas announcement"

Thoughts? :/
Sorry I'm a little pissed right now.

I agree with you Brad 100%. I actually have friends who do not celebrate Christmas and celebrate other traditions there religion upholds and me and my friends respect one anothers beliefs and traditions we uphold. Saying "oh your a stupid overseer for someone saying merry christmas" I think is just plain ignornaint to say the least. Saying merry christmas does not mean anything negative towards another person or trys to push another ones religion apon someone elses.
Now I respect everyone's religion because they just as have a right towards there's as I do mine, and I know around this time you can't really miss everything happening around Christmas, but really that's more to due to popularity then anything.
So yeah that's what I have to say...

Sorry to get pissed, but there are people at my school that argue over things like this all the time. Half of them aren't even Jewish, which pisses me off somewhat.

Hold on why would this be offensive to other people I know they don't celebrate christmas. That dumb someone would think we shouldn't put up christmas sigs.So what why don't you just put up whatever you celebrate. No one ever said you couldn't do it.So why shun people who celebrate christmas. It just what we(People who celebrate it)celebrate it our religion.

If you celebrate Christmas, you are going to say "Merry Christmas!"

i am muslim too.....anyway it'll be stupid with the christmas mood. i dont celebrate christmas but i still like the spirit..............

I wanna know how exactly it offends someone. I always get ''Merry Christmas''
or ''What did you get for Christmas?'' and then i say that im muslim and i usually get a ''sorry''. This is no reason to be offended people. Get over it

Oh..... well, I was actually thinking about this yesterday and I asked my parents about it. They said that because I live in America (not everyone, I know) that everyone is allowed to celebrate their own religious holidays, and since Chrisinaity is the largest (or second, I forget) religion, people, like Cartoon Network, show christmas specials to make money. But not everything is all Christian. Take Adam Sandlar's Hanukuha Song.

Indeed.

And with that, I shall now end this Debate, as to be honest, the purpose I had created it was to prove something to someone. I think I pretty much did, so.
Adios.
