This is a poem I wrote quickly, one day when I was getting stressed out, and I was bored. :D So here it is, I need to refine it, add imagery, details and stuff, but here is what I have so far. I actually did it for a Walt Whitman poem thing our teacher forced us to enter, but since I had like 15 minutes to finish it, I kinda rushed through it.
"The Shunned"
I see their eyes, glancing at me as I walk past them
Their minds automatically labeling me with something
Nerd, loser, weirdo, freak, emo, cutter, fatty and many more
These labels follow me everywhere I go
I watch people strive to change their labels,
To ones more favorable and cool
But I choose to discard it fully
And embrace my unique qualities
Others follow the path set for them,
Even if they don’t like it
Their fear of being an outcast,
Clouding their judgment too far
Even though they may taunt me,
I won’t let their words haunt me
I shall break these chains that weight me down,
And keep me labeled by those ignorant
A person, cannot be given a label,
As there are many faces and even more perceptions of them
Putting a label on each unique individual,
Simply because thy cannot understand it
Is pure idiocy
Many follow trends and fashion,
Hoping to be popular and cool,
To be accepted by those they perceive,
As superior
I will cross these barriers,
That others before us have put up,
Even if it means disassociating myself from close-minded people
As that is the path I shall pave ahead of me
This icy, cold feeling, of loneliness, may hurt for now,
But I know, when I leave High School,
I shall be proud for not having conformed to this mindset,
That rages through the minds of those who don’t use their own
