Samurai...stuff

So...I'm thinking about making an Rp about Samurai, the rise of the new government and technology, and the fall of the Way of the Samurai. I have pretty much no plotline other than that, I have a single character, and I have possibly a few races. That's about it. So...any takers or ideas?

Well...it's made up. I based it off of a game I played a long time ago, but it evolved faaaaar from the original game. so it's pretty much original at this point.

Alright. So is this a futuristic samurai or something?

No, it's based pretty much in the fuedal age, near the start of inustrial revoultion. Guns are now just starting to be produced, and steam engines are being put to use.

Alright. Okay, if it's about samurais, then I'm guessing it's based in Japan somewhere. Well, as most samurai stories are, his parents are slaughtered and are looking forward to getting revenge. Or are you hoping for something different and new?

Completely different. My original idea was about the dying race of the honorable samurai, and how the government was rising up, eliminating all of the virues that the samurai had worked so hard to achieve.

Oh...and then there are the demons.

Right. So the demons will be on the government's side, or will they be completely different antagonists?

Well, yeah. A pact was made, the Oni (demons) will eliminate the remainder of the samurai in return for a place in the new government.

Alright. So do you have a specific personality for the samurai? And does he have any associates?

And theres whre things get a little confusing. My character is an honorable samurai, and in the beginning, all he has are the clothes on his back and the special blade he has (one made to kill demons) His personality is...cold in a way, but not harsh. He'd rather not get involved with people because he doesn't want to see them hurt, yet he can't stop himself from helping people.

So he's kinda like Neji from Naruto, right? He acts cold towards others, but he helps his comrades when needed. He also helps others who need help the most. It's not too complicated, really.

Not exaclty like neji, cause neji beleives in the destiney/fate thing. But pretty much yeah. The complicated part is about the people who travel with him.

Originally it was a shinobi, a drunk ronin, and a girl who was sister to the shinobi. but that was....well...were it fell apart (cause the people I rp'd with were fickle) So...no companions ^^

So how will the other RPers contribute? Will they stray their own path in the RPG and make their own team?

Yeah, so u should just have humans in this RPG. I think it will flow better. Anf there should be a type of army or squad of samurai's tring to bring back the code of the samurai and have a unit..of specially train warriors to stop the samurai's goals

xD, um...without powers and stuff is my weakness. I write too much fantasy/scifi stuff. I could try, it might work.

Yeah! The samurais could depend on physical combat, while the demons rely solely on magical demon powers or something.

No...unless I meet them in the first few pages of the Rp and they 'decide' to join me.

But didn't you say that you'd prefer he stay alone throughout the RPG? If it goes that way, then the only option I could possibly think of is having them make their own group of ronin/samurai/shinobi and trying to stop the government organization on their own or in their own group.

Well, the thing is, is that me being alone kinda defeats the purpose of rping with others. Just because he wants to be alone, doesn't mean I want him to be alone. Maybe someone saves his life and he owes them a debt, maybe some annoying kid follows him cause he's cool. I dunno.

That could work. So will you make the character that saves the samurai's life, or are you expecting a fellow RPer to save him? Same goes for the kid.

Well, the name was originally Rhonin or Rhonnin...or Ronin...whatever the spelling. The cryteria for the guy he gets stuck with, drunk/gambler ronin who has barely any morals (something Ronin would hate)

As for the organization...uh...I dunno....

The Governement is just the government for simplicity.

Um...none come to mind just yet, but the more I think, the faster they come. I dunno...Ronin is supposedly an honorable samurai, but then again...is he really? I'm not sure...

Well... how about he finds out that... I don't know... one of his closest friends/family members is a part of the Government, and they eventually have to fight to increase his honorability. I dunno.

Well my charry for this RPG (sorry I made one up so soon) will have no memory of his passed, just quick images of him fighting some guy with white hair and traing at a school. In the beginning he will not know about the skills he has, he wont even know that he use to be a samurai. (oh yeah he lost his memory in a battle between to diffierent samurai clans)

The future and samurais wouldn't go together very well since present day guns have replaced any kind of close combat. Unless of course the samurais are superhuman.

Well...that;s what I'm working on here. The best thing I know is that the new Government is slowly but surely taking out the Samurai, eliminating the ancient ways (which is why the demons were important, helping the Government) so...yeah.

That works for me. The higher demons are known as Oni. And not all Oni are evil, mind you. Just...most of them are. The demons are also providing some of the newer technology, such as the engines and such.

How about you add the original samurai in this RPG? You know, the legendary Japanese samurai who fought during the Sengoku period. I can name a few from the top of my head, but if you like the idea, you could probably look up a few.

Lord Hiroyi sat behind his grand table. The room was silent except for the low breathing that came from the Lord and his bodyguards.

"Lord Hiroyi!" The sound came from the sudden opening doors. Lord Hiroyi barely winced and looked upon the bowing servant.

"Yes?" His voice was solemn.

"The attack on Nagashima..."

"Go on."

"The attack on Nagashima was a failure... The mercenaries you contracted were deafeated and their corpses lay outside the village walls. My sources inform me that the attack was ceased by a few rougue samurais that were in the town. I do not know what their motives for defending the town was..."

"DAMMIT!!" Lord Hiroyi stood at once smashing down hard on the table. A few of the nearby glass cups fell and broke instantly.
"These samurai are constantly foiling my plans... Its time that I consult the grand sages."

Instantly Lord Hiroyi was guided to teh sages temple.

In the temple a number of old men silently meditated. It was believed they looked into the future, with help from the fallen emperors of past ages. The sage nearest the door welcomed Lord Hiroyi.
"Welcome Lord, what knowledge do you seek?"

Lord Hiroyi calmly answered. "I seek no knowledge sage... I seek guidance." After a long pause the Lord spoke once more. "I seek guidance on how to rid my future lands of the samurai."

Now the oldest looking sage spoke. "Samurai. The loyal body guards of the feudal lords, now roaming these lands in this time of peace. Yes, you will not be able to extinguish their fighting spirit, their sense of justice is firm. The only way, my Lord, that you will hope to destroy them is to extinguish their spiritual fire. No mere mortal will be able to do so."

Lord Hiroyi spoke once more, "Then what... what can I do?"

"Very simple my seige," the sage began to explain. "You must call upon the demons we call the Oni. Only they can extinguish those Samurai's fighting spirit..."

Years later...

Japan is now under constant threat of destruction by the rising power of one feudal Lord... Lord Hiroyi. Many men of great valor have already submited to his will. For they fear the Oni... Some rumors say that Lord Hiroyi himself is no longer, entirely human.

Now only the Samurai, great warriors, dedicated to protecting their lands rise in defense for their crumbling nation.

Well...I'm not entirely sure. Maybe we should put detailed 'jobs.'

Honorable Samurai -
These are the Samurai still true to their heritage. They have disowned the new Government and continued their path of the Way of the Samurai.

Ronin Samurai -
These are the Samurai who have lost their path, the ones that use their fighting skills for their own gain. While not sided with the true Samurai, they are still hunted by the Government.

Oni -
The Oni are powerful demons, usually in association to the Government. Many types exist, and they have different skills and abilities. Note, however, that not all Oni side with the Government. It is said that some Oni will trade with humans for things that they cannot obtain. The Oni usually give power, and want something of deep importance to them.

Oni Samurai -
A Samurai who has fallen under the influence of the Oni. This warrior is either a reincarnate Oni, or one possesed by an Oni's power. Most of them lie with the Government, but there are a few known to defy them. They are not considered Honorable.

Shinobi -
The Shinobi are elite ninja who work for any kind of money. Assassinations, framings, spying, and many other jobs are done without hesitation. Most don't care about honor, and will do anything for the right price.

Oni Shinobi -
A Shinobi with the power of a demon, these are formidable foes. The greed and power of an Oni, combined with the stealth and skill of a Shinobi are a true force to be reckoned with. However, most Oni cannot stand stealth, therefor they are very VERY rare.

FOr instance, my main character (Ronin) carries a blade that has a strange blue tint to it. It is extremly effective against demons, and works well against humans as well. However, the blade's cost was VERY severe.

So...yeah. Since you seem to know a lot about that, you wanna help make some examples or explinations?

Kanji magic: Made by spreading fluids upon any object and offering the proper incantation to activate teh spell

Talismin Magic: Seal away spirits and prevent them from approaching areas (wards)

Magic Weapons: Weapons which have been imbuded with Kanji spells and have certain active and activated powers
