According to an article on KHinsider, the production of Kingdom Hearts Coded could be halted....

Recent articles on the FF7AC and FF&KH blogs are reporting that Square Enix has halted production on games in their mobile department. It is currently unclear if Kingdom Hearts coded is one of the suspended titles, but there is concern for it.

In March 2008, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada held a press conference discussing the development of Dragon Quest IX starting this year. In his presentation, President Wada brings up the subject of mobile networking games, claiming that production has been suspended on major titles.

About the suspension, he explains that, "Development of the titles has experienced over 3 billion in loss of appraisal. A review of the development system was performed and determined that the timing is unsuitable for the mobile department to be working on the networking games being developed for major titles, therefore production has stopped."

The names of the games effected by the production halt were not specified and are not clear at this time.

But since President Wada mentions "major titles", its assumed he was talking about the major mobile games currently being developed, Final Fantasy XIII Agito and Kingdom Hearts coded.

Regardless, a halt in gaming development is disappointing to hear.

We'll have to wait for future reports to confirm whether or not KH: coded is among the games being suspended. It has also been unclear whether or not coded would be released stateside through Square Enix Moblie NA, but this pause in development puts it further off.

I think it's a good thing that Coded gets production stopped. They already have the story set and the battle system in place, but it's still being put together. If you read properly it states that the whole mobile department has been suspended from work. This could mean that Coded will be transferred to one of the other departments, like say DS or PSP. And those really hopeful about getting another KH on PS2 should keep their fingers crossed, but that's unlikely.

Well....
1-Like was said, cell phones aren't ready for a major game series. Let's just stick to Tetris for now, k?
2-A lot of people probably won't want it anyway for the thought that it could lack major gaming qualities. [Including battle quality and plot.]
3-For all we know, it was probably gonna be released Japan exclusive anyway.
4-It would probably be a waste of money for the producers, because something like that would probably cost more than it would profit.
5-They haven't told us nearly anything about the game, so it's probably not that important in the first place.

If at all transferred, it wouldn't be on PS2. Only the main games are on television-based systems, like KH1 and KH2 and someday KH3. All of the "in-between" games are on handhelds.

I think that they should continue with development for the game, especially since its storyline will play a part in KH3. However, I think they should develop it for a different console. I think it would be great if they made it for the PSP, the DS, or even as a special download for the PS3 available from the PlayStation Store.

I'll be happy they halted only if they bring agito and coded to another system like the DS or PSP....It wouldve been one of those games that wouldve been forgotten if taken to the mobile phone....I mean do you even remember the firt Kingdom hearts that went to the cell phone?

It wouldn't bother me because it's only gonna be released in japan, and i dont wanna promote games on cellphones, snake was the best game on cellphone..and snake 2..having games like these on cellphones is just wrong *in my opinion, it's just pushing it a bit too much..

coded probably isn't going to reveal a whole lot about KH3 anyway.

(yes i know that it is a different department/production team, but i'm going to say it anyway) and that's just one less thing to get done before BBS.... it might not come out any faster, b/c its a different team, but who knows? it can't hurt it or slow it down at all....

Coded was going to be about King Mickey. Jiminy Cricket saw something in his journal that he didn't write, and he went to tell the King about it, so Mickey went back in time to investigate.

because the cellphones suck in north america, i don't know much about cellphones in europe..

the N-series(Nokia), is just being released now in the states. While in Asia the N-series was released 2 yrs. ago..lol

Production not halted anymore? Just another rumour? Yeah, I'd go with the latter and wait for something more official. But if it's true...yay?

I'm pretty sure Coded will come to the NA because Nomura has already expressed interest in bringing all 3 new titles overseas. And I even heard a rumor that they might put Coded on the PSP, but I kinda doubt it. But don't get discouraged, 'cause I'm sure Coded will come to the NA. I heard that Coded has major things in the storyline that we pretty much need to know in order to understand the future of KH, as in probably KH3.

Yes, Nomura has said all three game connect to help form KH3, so I'm sure if they are THAT important, Square-Enix has no option but to release them internationally. Because it's inevitable we'll all get KH3...it won't be much use if we haven't played the three handheld games that bridge it together. We will hear about a release outside of Japan sometime in 2009, I bet.
