I believe Ven was petrified but not after he sent his keyblade to find a new master(note that no keyblade is with him as he falls). I think that he woke up in xehanorts wake and xehanort convinced him that he had no heart, therefore making him join the organization under the new name Roxas. Ven kept having those dreams about Sora because the keyblade had found its new master.(do the rest of the math in your head)

That weapon he had breaks, Nomura said that he is NOT Roxas, and the keyblade he picked up was way to the dawn not the kingdom key.
