My thirst for blood was like a raging forest fire, the burn intolerable. As I lay there motionless, unable to move, keeping the pain to myself, I heard my own screech within the boundaries of my mind. What’s happening to me? And then there he was… never before had I seen such a vision of beauty. I had no idea who he was or from where he came from but somehow I knew he was my saviour.

“The pain… make it stop… help… me!”
I sat bolt upright. I was shaking with fear or was it pain? I couldn’t’t really tell. But it’s the same dream that’s been troubling me the past couple of weeks. I can never really recall that much once awoken. Not even the face of the person I reach out to for help. And just as I reach out to them and scream I always wake up. I cant get my head around it. I lay back down beckoning sleep, as I did so I thought of the person in my dreams…
“Beep, Beep, Beep”. “Urgh! Stupid alarm.” I was sluggish from the little sleep I had earned myself. Even after awaking suddenly through the night I still could rest peacefully.
I dragged myself out of bed and threw some clothes on for school. A light beige jumper and jeans. Same old routine, day-in day-out. Caradale is mundane, small and insignificant on the map. So small in fact, I have to get bus into a town called Campbeltown, for basic essentials like school, shopping and friends. I attend Krad High, its only got two hundred students so you know everyone there is to know.
“Breakfast… what to have? I know!” Sandwich and brown sauce, a classic. I disgusted most folk when I ate this in front of them, to me however, it was delightful. I finished up and I put on my shoes.
Tying my laces, I was ready to go. “Mum!”, I shouted, but there wasn’t an answer. My mum wasn’t in. No surprise there. She works most of the time so it’s a rarity to see us spending time together. My dad deserted us before I had even taken my first breath.
I left the house and went to get the bus. “I’m early”. A few cars whizzed by. I noticed a boy walking up, I hadn’t ever seen him before yet I knew him somehow. It was weird. I had this urge to go over and talk to him. Before I realised my feet were moving…
And then it happened so fast, I ran out, careless to check for any vehicles, and in the heat of the moment hadn’t noticed the fast approaching bus. The driver looked stunned to see me, as if I had appeared out of nowhere. I felt that clicking again, and instinct took over. I turned, threw myself onto my stomach and hoped I would get lucky… it whizzed right over the top of me. There were no cars at its rear, that give me time to pull myself together and cross the road, but he wasn’t there. It may have felt longer but it could have only been minutes and there wasn’t anywhere he could have went. Perhaps I banged my head.
“Dammit!” , that was the last bus on I could catch that would take me in to Campbeltown on time. “Oh well, walking it is.” I felt a bit dizzy, but I put that down to nearly being ran over by the bus. It’s a pleasant atmosphere, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling someone was watching me. But there wasn’t anyone around, the six or seven times I looked around confirmed that.
I got in just in time for Break. I got a few baffled looks, even some sniggers. I decided to head straight for the bathrooms. I walked in and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I hadn’t even felt it, but I had blood down the side of my face, coming from a gash at the side of my head. When I dived down I banged my head without even realising. Then Sora seen me. She has been my best friend from primary, and she was a lot taller than me and a little protective as well. She was in one of the cubicles and I hadn’t even realised.
“LUNA!” she boomed. “What happened to you!?”
“I tripped on the way to school” I said trying to shrug it off.
“Can’t you be more careful?”
“I didn’t’t.. do it.. on... pur…pose…” And then nothing. Total darkness. Time stopped.

“Luna” he beckoned.
I reached out but it wasn’t far enough, he grew further and further away. I shouted for him to stay but he kept going into the distance. It was then I realised my screams were mute and there was nothing I could do. He disappeared. And my hope was lost. All I was able to do was be swallowed up by the darkness and evil eating away at my body. It felt like I was falling continuously and then I saw it the bottom to the endless fall.. I got closer and closer until eventually I shut my eyes and pictured the boy. Hoping his voice would bring me hope.

I woke abruptly, unaware of where I was or what time it was. I looked around, nothing seemed familiar. The smell was putrid and the room looked far to clean.
I remembered what happened.. The boy. The bus. The gash. Sora. Blacking out. I lifted my hands to the side of my head and that’s when I realised where I was. I had a drip in my hand and a bandage on my head. Hospital. From where I was lying see out the window was useless so I got up and dragged myself over. It was late September and the sun was setting, that made it roughly half-eight. “Have I really been out for nine hours and a half?”
“Actually no you haven’t , more like ten hours since its nine o’clock. I’m just here to check on you.”
The voice was deep and sounded familiar but I couldn’t’t place it. Warm and friendly.
I whipped around to see who had said that. I moved to quick for my own body, it was still recovering from losing a lot of blood, I felt dizzy again, I reached my arm out towards the him but it was to late everything was fuzzy and I was falling again. Except this time I didn’t’t fall into darkness, I fell into someone’s arms, his arms. Everything was still fuzzy but I felt safe, and I drifted off into a gentle, dreamless sleep.

I woke up feeling refreshed and a hundred times better than the previous day. I looked around, nothing changed, it’s the same room as I was in last night… last night, he came in and he caught me before I hit the ground. I longed for his warmth, and power to keep those terrifying dreams away.
The door to my room opened quietly but even so I was startled. I turned around to see a young nurse in her mid-twenties. Her name was Susan and she was appointed to look after me well I stayed at the hospital.
“Good morning Miss Nights”
It was odd hearing my name said like that, “ Please, call me Luna”
“ As you wish, Luna. Is there anything I can get you. Perhaps Tea or Coffee?”
“Am I fit to eat solids?” I asked as my stomach growled.
“Yes you are, what do you fancy?” she asked.
“Erm… may I get a piece and brown sauce and tea please?”
She looked at me with a worried look when the words “brown sauce” were said.
“Its ok, I eat it all the time” I said trying to sound happy and cheerful, but really I wasn’t I wanted to see that person… who ever he was.
“Alright then, I’ll be back soon with your breakfast, try not to move around to much, it could cause you to become a little dizzy because of that nasty knock you took to your head”.
I nodded my head in acknowledgement. She was about to leave when I asked about the previous night.
“Who was the male member of staff sent check up on me last night?” I asked.
“Honey, nobody was into check on you through the night because the sedatives you were given should have kept you in a cosy sleep throughout the time you were here, they were stronger that I thought you needed but the doctor insisted. It was so you were well rested after losing that amount of blood”. She looked at me, almost as if she was studying me.
“But… last night I had gotten up to look out the window, I wasn’t sure what time it was so I wanted to see what position the sun was at. All of a sudden I heard a deep, male voice from behind me, so I whipped round but I moved to fast and became dizzy again and was about to faint but he caught me and I fell into a gentle sleep”.
She looked at me, utterly baffled.
“Im afraid your mistaken, nobody has wrote in your notes since you’ve been sedated, you were heavily drugged so there was no chance you could have woken up, and besides there hasn’t been any male staff on this ward in nearly six months. You must have a had a pleasant dream.” And she about turned and left the room.
Sitting there, I pondered over the previous night. Was the incident real or am I losing my mind?
