Well... Yeah, I'll let the recently released picture speak for itself!

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x77/HappyHeartless/Hmhmhm.jpg

Any thoughts? ^^

INFO:
It's being directed by Tim Burton (as the colorful and abstract clothing and make up should suggest)! Mia Wasikowska (a fairly unknown young actress) has the role of Alice, Anne Hathaway (from the picture) is the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter (also from the picture) portrays the Queen of Hearts, or, the Red Queen, while Johnny Depp has the role of the Mad Hatter. Guess I don't need to say that he is also in the picture!
Alan Rickman (Snape) and Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman, Count Dooku, several Tim Burton movies) are also among the mentionable cast, as the Caterpillar and the Jabberwock. Stephen Fry (You've almost certainly seen or heard this guy before, even though he haven't had many lead roles) will be portraying the Cheshire Cat, which will be hilarious : >

Oh and yeah, the person on the right in the picture is not Alice but the White Queen!

:]

Idk, as much as i like the dark and strange works; i prefer it to have a nice, child like tone as in the original two novels. Even though now, The two books are more likely to be read by Middle and High School students. I know i was in high school when i read the two but i digress.

Anyways, who's directing the movie and any name cast revealed yet?

I'd love to just direct you onwards to IMDB, but what the hey.

The books - which I have read - are quite dark. Disney long ago put a very childish spin on the original stories by Lewis Caroll.
Caroll, if you know anything about him, was actually a very strange man.

I am excited for this out of curiosity; I want to see what Burton is capable of.

While the idea of a recreation isn't terrible, I'm just growing tired of Tim Burton leaching off of Jonny Depp's fame. Honestly, if this guy made something without Depp in it, would it be as well accepted? I doubt it. Tim Burton, try getting your own career, and stop relying on Jonny Depp to sell your work.

He uses Johnny Depp because he's an amazing actor, not because of his fame... Tim Burton's most amazing works don't even have Depp in them, and he was amazing before he even did a single movie with Johnny Depp! If there's someone you should complain about always teaming up with Burton, it's Danny Elfman, but they're also awesome together so no one in their right mind really complains ^^

Tim Burton has waaay more creds than Johnny Depp in the movie world, anyways..

Please enlighten me. I don't recall any movie he did before Edward Scissorhands. I don't discredit Depp, because he's a great actor and has amazing range. But, while Depp can go and do multiple projects between his collabs with Burton, it seems Burton waits until Depp is free before he does another movie. Burton's may have talent as a director, but lets face it, Depp is what makes these freak shows work.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is still, and has always been one of his best. And as for the movies before Johnny Depp, he directed both Batman and Beetle juice. Now I don't know if you've seen these (which you shoud have) but both of them show the typical Tim Burton style, they're both amazing in the Tim Burton way, and they helped earn him his fame more than Johnny Depp ever did.
And come on, Depp isn't the one who makes it works! Micheal Keaton was never one of my favorite actors, but he did _THE_ best role of his life as Beetlejuice who (oh so surprisingly) is a major freak.

And come on, Depp isn't the one who makes it works! Micheal Keaton was never one of my favorite actors, but he did _THE_ best role of his life as Beetlejuice who (oh so surprisingly) is a major freak.

Ah, you got me there. TNBC is definately great work, and I can't say enough about Beetlejuice. The original Batman, I always thought was the best. Well still was the best until Dark Knight was released. So, you've got a point, but I still think that he relys on Depp too much at this point to make his movies work.

Indeed he does use him a lot. But we really can't deny it, the result is usually amazing D:

The books - which I have read - are quite dark. Disney long ago put a very childish spin on the original stories by Lewis Caroll.
Caroll, if you know anything about him, was actually a very strange man.

I am excited for this out of curiosity; I want to see what Burton is capable of.

I would beg to differ lol ^^ Then again it's been so long since i read them. Still, i think they were not that dark and that just me looking at the surface.

Anyways; i think i'll pass on the movie tim burton or not. I don't care much also for the disney version ^^ btw.

Dude, ALL of those types of original books were Dark or had something kind of disturbing moment.

In the real Little Mermaid, the Little Mermaid dies.
Etc Etc.

It's like nursery rhymes, they're all sick and twisted if you give enough thought to them.

Ring around the rosie - They all drop dead.
Humpty Dumpty - He falls off a ledge.
The Little Old Lady Who Lives In A Shoe - Child Beater.

The Little Old Lady Who Lives In A Shoe - Child Beater.

According to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_around_the_rosie

In the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, and Australia, it is usually sung: Ring a-ring o' roses,
A pocketful of posies.
a-tissue!, a-tissue!.
We all fall down.

Other versions Of it in the U.K.:

Picking up the roses,
picking up the roses,
Atishoo!, Atishoo!
We all jump up.
Picking up the daises,
picking up the daises,
Atishoo!, Atishoo!
We all jump up.
Ashes in the water,
Ashes in the sea,
We all jump up
With a one-two-three.
The King has sent his daughter,
To fetch a pail of water.
ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo.
We all fall down.
The bird up on the steeple,
Sits high above the people.
ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo.
We all fall down.
The cows are in the meadow,
Eating buttercups,
ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo.
they all jump up.
Fishes in the water,
Fishes in the sea,
We all jump up,
With a one, two, three!
Down at the bottom of the deep blue sea,
How many fishes can you see,
We all jump up,
With a one, two, three!
Sitting at the bottom of the deep blue sea,
Catching fishes, for my tea!
We all jump up,
With a one, two, three!

Plague interpretation

Many have associated the poem with the Great Plague of London in 1665, or with earlier outbreaks of bubonic plague in England. Interpreters of the rhyme before World War II make no mention of this;[15] by 1951, however, it seems to have become well established as an explanation for the form of the rhyme that had become standard in Britain. Peter and Iona Opie remark: "The invariable sneezing and falling down in modern English versions have given would-be origin finders the opportunity to say that the rhyme dates back to the Great Plague. A rosy rash, they allege, was a symptom of the plague, posies of herbs were carried as protection, sneezing was a final fatal symptom , and 'all fall down' was exactly what happened."[16][17] The line Ashes, Ashes in alternative versions of the rhyme is claimed to refer variously to cremation of the bodies, the burning of victims' houses, or blackening of their skin, and the theory has been adapted to be applied to other versions of the rhyme, or other plagues.[18] In its various forms, the interpretation has entered into popular culture and has been used elsewhere to make oblique reference to the plague.[19] (For 'hidden meaning' in other nursery rhymes see Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, Humpty Dumpty, Jack Be Nimble, Little Jack Horner, Cock Robin and Meanings of nursery rhymes.)
Folklore scholars regard the theory as baseless for several reasons:
the late appearance of the explanation means that it has no tradition, only the value of its content;[15]
the symptoms described do not fit especially well with the Great Plague;[17][20]
the great variety of forms make it unlikely that the modern form is the most ancient one, and the words on which the interpretation are based are not found in many of the earliest records of the rhyme (see above);[18][21]
European and 19th century versions of the rhyme suggest that this 'fall' was not a literal falling down, but a curtsy or other form of bending movement that was common in other dramatic singing games.[22]

In other words; we americans bastardize the original rhyme lol and furthermore is not a dark theme rhyme Sasuke :p

As for Humpty Dumpty: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humpty_Dumpty

The Rhyme:

The most common text is:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses,
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again.[1]
The rhyme does not actually state that Humpty Dumpty is an egg.[2]
In its first full printed form in 1810, the rhyme is posed as a riddle and exploits for misdirection the fact that "humpty dumpty" was also eighteenth-century reduplicative slang for a short and clumsy person[2]; the riddle being that, whereas a clumsy person falling off a wall, depending on the height of the wall, would probably not be irreparably damaged, an egg would be.[1] The rhyme is no longer posed as a riddle, since the answer is now so well known. Similar riddles have been recorded by folklorists in other languages, such as Boule Boule in French, or Lille Trille in Swedish & Norwegian; though none is as widely known as Humpty Dumpty is in English.[1]

It was originally a riddle :p XD So, it seems you are wrong again ^^

The last one for all we know was probably correct though.

Still, the Lewis Carrol wrote the stories for the children of his friends and ministry. I doubt that it could be all that dark coming from a clergy men lol.

Never said it was an egg.
Never said it was the plague.
Also, you said alternate version.
Those are another persons interpretation, did the original inventor of the rhyme them self give the true meaning? Sure it may not match the plague directly. But METAPHORICALLY speaking it would match imo.

So if my interpretation differs, I have my reasons, and as you see am not wrong. Good try though :P. Never defy what I have to say, I don't fall without a good fight.

I see you had nothing to say about the Little Mermaid... and let me rephrase something. Maybe it isn't dark, but definitely quite sadistic, regardless of what the true meaning is imo.

And I strongly suggest that if you are going to find facts, do not use wikipedia., you should know why. :/

Also, I'm not saying all that info is wrong either.

I found this to be a clever, enjoyable story. Sure, it wasn't groundbreaking or crazily hyped by critics, but I liked it.

I mean, who wasn't curious to see Burton's take on this?

Ya, that part made me chuckle.

I saw it a while ago, and I loved it!!!
Especially how Tim Burton had given it a real storyline and not just a girl going to some random world and doing absolutely nothing... :oooo:

Have you forgotten Sweeney Todd? Edward Scissorhands? Charlie and The Chocolate Factory? Batman? Planet of The Apes? Or how about Sleepy Hollow, or Big Fish?

Point being, he's done an enormous amount of work that isn't entirely animated. So I've no idea what you're talking about.
