. . .will some one be so kind as to explain to me what exactly this is?. . .what is the reasoning behind its use? how is its use justified?. . .

. . .going a little further, what are your thoughts about it?. . .is it something that should be avoided? harmless?. . .or has the viewer/public grown accustomed to it and so it is no longer an issue?. . .

. . .i must say i do not have a clear understanding of this concept. . .given that it seems impossible to see a movie that does not show a sex (or suggestive) scene, i take it most people don't see this a big deal. . .people have pretty much grown used to suggestive scenes in movies over the decades. . .

. . .send me a pm if you feel this should be discussed in a private manner. . .

Well fan service doesn't necessarily have to be related to sex or graphic scenes. Technically, it would be anything that the fans are desperate to see. That could be excessive violence, explosions, fart jokes............ and so on. Mostly though, it's considered to be suggestive material and sexual themes.

Mostly this is present in anime geared towards young teens. You know the ones. Where you have some gratuitous panty shot or some girl with breasts unproportional to her body.

Personally, I can do without the excessive fan service. In no way does it make anything better. And if the aim of the show or movie is simply to exploit people's desire for fan service, then it shouldn't be made in the first place. And yes, sex is becoming a much less taboo subject to be present in the public eye. Let's face it, sex sells.
