Sora is in Castle of Oblivion and he's trying to figure out what is going on. Sora and Co. start to forget things and encounter the members of the Organization Axel, Larxene, Vexen, Marluxia. (I think that is all, not sure sorry.) They meet up with friends but Sora realizes they are just figments of his memories and Namine is changing the links in his memories to make him forget Kairi and replace herself in his memories. He begins to talk about her. Marluxia wants Sora's power but later on tells Vexen to go ahead and get rid of him, becuase he's caused enough trouble getting further into the Castle. Vexen gives hints about the other side of Sora's heart (Roxas duh) and Sora is confused. Axel later kills Vexen off and goes his own way doing things (again...) Sora meets Riku but leanrs it's his replica and all that and then the replica feels bad or something. Then he meets Namine and she gives him the choice to forget his memories and remember this place and her or to forget her and retreive his normal memories back. He chooses to get back his real memories and then he battles Marluxia, beats him, the charm changes back to the Oathkeeper charm and he remembers Kairi and Namine puts him in the flower thingy.

Then for Riku's story:

Riku wakes up in place neither light nor darkness and a voice tells him to sleep but he refuses and takes a card that Mickey summons and he appears in Castle Oblivion. He then fights members of the Org. and Ansem a few times. He goes around into other worlds with cards and tries to rid his heart of the darkness that still lingers in it. The other Organization members in his story try to get his power (I think) and Zexion says that his scent is like the superior's. He battles Replica Riku and defeats him. He ends up at Destiny Islands where it is an Illusion created by Zexion and he tries to make Riku feel bad about leaving his friends and points out he is responsible for everything that happened. Kairi (Namine in disguise) confronts Riku and tells him that he can still ahdn on to the darkness b/c that is what makes him strong but he doesn't have to look at it in a bad way. Riku seeks out Zexion's scent in the light and tries to defeat him and he disappears back in the basement of Castle Oblvion where he's wounded (looks like he is) and Axel appears with Replica Riku and he destroys Zexion. Riku then meets up with Namine and she explains stuff that is happening and he sees DiZ. I think it gets to ending like he destorys Ansem and meets back up with Mickey and tells him the darkness is still in his heart. Mickey said they'll stick together and they both leave Castle Oblivion.

After you've completed the game as Sora, you play through Riku's story, called Reverse Rebirth, as Riku. :)

I'm not quite sure what you meant there. Chain of Memories is the story of what happens straight after the first Kingdom Hearts. After it finishes, almost a year passes before Kingdom Hearts II begins.

Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix was exactly the same as Kingdom Hearts with extra scenes, battles, enemies, music, weapons, abilities, and the extended secret ending (Deep Dive) and was indeed only ever released in Japan. At the time, the Kingdom Hearts fanbase was much smaller in America than it was in Japan, but that's now changed, and Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ should be coming out in America in Fall, after it comes out in Japan on March 29th.

At first when i played through Sora's story, i didnt really like the game play because i never got used to the way the card system worked. But then i FINALLY beat Marluxia and then i got to play through Riku's story. And for some reason playing through Reverse/Rebirth, it just clicked for me. So i decided to go back through Sora's story and it was very easy the second time around and had fun playing it. It's going to be exciting to see CoM in 3D for sure. By the way, why was Dark Riku 4 insanely hard? (at least for me the first time around)

Riku's story I think was much easier to play than Sora's.
Pretty much the only part I didn't like playing as Riku is when you are given these very weak cards for Traverse Town.
