Who is the owner of the nobody Vexen? (Better said, who died and became Vexen?)

I've been wanting to find this out for a while now. He has some oddly special connection, obviously, with Riku, much so he creates a fake replica of him to do his bidding.

Any thought or ideas on the matter?

What I mean is, don't you think he has a little more importance to the story than just that?

Maybe Vexen knew Riku's parents?

Or maybe Vexen is a nobody of Riku's father?
