well i think yuffie called him squall in CoM because its like starting kh1 all over because they forgot who sora was, i refer to him as leon since i never knew who he was until i played kh1 or any of the ff characters for that matter

I think Nomura just changed it so that FF fans who were playing the game wouldn't know they were searching for Squall. That leaves you with a little surprise. If you never played FF8 before KH, then it wouldn't matter anyway.
