I think Riku does like Kiri, one of the reasons being that at the start of kh1, how Riku and Sora are having a race and whoever wins will name the raft.

Yes, afterwards he did say he was joking, but serioually, does Riku look like a joky sort of person? I think the only reason he said this was becouse he knows he might hurt Sora by saying he liked Kiri too.
The other reason I think this is becouse remember how Riku gave his heart to the darkness to save Kiri? Thats a pretty big sacrafice if you ask me.
Also he doesn't show this emotion much becouse he knows he and Kiri would ever be on a level like Kiri and Sora will be. Poor Riku :(

I've actually read something about this somewhere on the internet. Riku doesn't like Kairi as more than a friend, though it does seem like he's competing with Sora for her attention. You'll notice that when Sora meets Riku in Traverse Town and Sora asks where Kairi is that Riku answers rather nonchalantley that he thought she was with Sora. What the article said was happening was that when Kairi arrived on Destiny Islands she took Sora's attention away from Riku and with Sora being his best friend, Riku didn't like it. He began competing with Kairi for Sora's attention, not the other way around. He competes with Sora to best him and by doing so, Sora tries harder to beat Riku, thereby giving Riku attention as a friend and as a rival.

I think that they tried to make it obvious on Destiny Island that Riku didn't have a thing for Kairi...since a little after the race...Riku gives Sora a fruit and tells him to give it to Kairi (cause he knew that Sora wanted to). Riku's like a big brother to the both of them...but that's really something that you see a lot more of in the second game!

I think he did love her during the first game but after he lost his heart to the darkness he gave up on everything, and by the time he met up with Kairi in the world that never was I think he had resigned himself to the fact that because of what he had done it would never work between them and also that he didn't belong in the world of light. But by the end he goes back with Sora but I think he saw that it was going to be Sora and Kairi.

I hope I'm wrong as I would rather it was Riku and Kairi. I supose that we'll just have to wait and find out.

Remember - he had not extinguished the Darkness already in his Heart.

I think for Riku it was always about soras attention. The thing that starts him down the path of darkness in the first place is sora making friends with donald and goofy. At that stage, Riku's an attention-seeking little jerk. Also, up 'till now he's always been better than sora, but sora suddenly starts going off on his own and doing better than him. So, riku tries to beat sora to kairi, just to be better than sora and get his attention back. At the end, he realises what a jerk he's been, and grows up a lot.

In KH1 Riku liked Kairi like a sister correct because rmemeber in the beginning he was actually joking about the Paopu Fruit thingy. Then in KH2 he still thought of her as a sister because he didnt want her hurt. Unlike Sora, there is definitely a difference between the way Sora is protecting Kairi(over-protection) and Riku(Brotherly). lol

This actually makes a lot of sense. Probably the best theory i have heard to.

I look at it in realistic terms, Sora and Riku are both going through there girl stage, and Kairi probably being one of the only girls they interact with they both developed feelings. However i think Riku sees that Sora likes Kairi and also see that Kairi likes Sora, that is why Riku gives the fruit to Sora.

I totally agree with ya! I really highly doubt that Riku actually likes Kairi in a romantic type of way. That's more of Sora, since he's always showing how much he cares for her. Like in KH2 after that 1,000 heartless battle in Hollow Bastion, Saix tells Sora he wants to see how much Sora cares for Kairi. And Sora got down on his knees and pleaded. Saix could've somehow probably destroyed Sora if he wanted to, but Sora didn't seem to care. All he cared was that Kairi would be safe. And Riku had even said in the end of KH1 "Take care of her." Riku does care for Kairi a lot, but not in a romantic way. And it seems that Sora cares for Kairi even more. Remember in KH1 when you fight Riku in Hollow Bastion and Sora tries to wake up Kairi? Well, he gave up his heart(which was actually Kairi's) so she would wake up. He knew then that he would be lost in the darkness/turn into a heartless. And Kairi seems to care for Riku a lot, but more in a big brother sorta of way. Kairi also gave Sora her good luck charm;)

That being said, he is, however, understanding towards things that are actually important. Yes, it took a whole game for Sora to realise he was a total dillhole, and about twenty seconds to become a good guy again, but he was doing all of this for what he believed was right. Riku being Chuck Norris compared to you on Destiny Islands and him apparently forgetting that you can get stronger. Throughout the entire game he believes he's the only one capable of saving Kairi because in the very beginning you were practically his bitch.

*sigh* All in all what i'm trying to say is that while he was overconfident about his abilities and relationship with Kairi, he's not below being supportive when he realises that there's someone else more important or more deserving, IOW, Sora being the Keyblade master, and Sora's relationship with Kairi.

Also Riku said that he was willing to do anything just to retrieve Kairi heart, so im guessing that means he loves her. Even if he told Sora that he was just kidding about the paopou fruit thing, i think he was serious. Besides, I think in KH2 Riku finally came to his senses and realized that Kairi loves Sora, so he stopped liking Kairi...mabye.

You know.. the story of Sora,Kairi and Riku is over now! the Third game birth by sleep is about Terra, Ven and Aqua. Terra = related to riku somehow
Ven = is related to Sora somehow and Aqua is related to Kairi somehow. The game Kingdom hearts: Birth by sleep ( or as you call it Kingdom hearts 3 ) is 10 years before Sora,Kairi and Riku goes to their adventures. Sora and Riku is in the game but as small children. ( they are apparently in one or two cut scenes) It is a whole new story and Sora, Kairi and Riku are not really linked to it.. just in cut scenes..

i believe that riku and keiri despite themselves are drawn to one another. if you otice it has always been riku that saves kairi and of course in the first game she's a totla bitch and doesnt even give it any thought. after all it was riku that found her in the darkness then risked his very existance to save her only to fight his way out of the darkness she brout forth in him. then he saves her again and again and again in kingdom hearts 2. if you notice he only tries to leave when shes around. its like he wants to see her and sora happy but it hurts to watch. he treis to run after saving her from siax and after she meets up with sora. but if you notice she always tries to get him to stay. she even went as far as to beg for sora's help in the second game. im one of few however that would see the situation like this sadly. i believe it is riku that belongs with kairi. remeber there just kids now, what will kairi's hearts long for when she has grownup and seen the full picture. i dont believe it will be sora.

Yeah, Riku really likes Kairi.
That's why when the Islands disappeared, he only reached out to Sora when the two were enveloped by the Darkness.
And when he met Sora in Traverse Town, told Sora not to worry about Kairi since she'll find them on her own sweet time.

He didn't start caring about Kairi until it became a race over who was good enough for the Keyblade, with the Keyblade being why Sora didn't "need" Riku to be the strong one anymore. The entire Neverland scene where he waves Kairi in Sora's face before kicking him away - after he offered to Sora to save her together - is him being bitter and petty. Sora failed him as a friend, so he'll prove to him he doesn't need Sora because he's better and stronger.

This ties in nicely with Sora being the one who brought Kairi into his and Riku's Secret Place.

Riku and Kairi only care about each other for Sora's sake.

I always thought that Riku was only joking around when he said that? Anyway... I don't think Riku is in love with Kairi at all. I think she sees him more as a big brother and someone she can rely on. And deep down, he knows that Sora loves her and she loves Sora. So he's like the third wheel. Poor Riku... Hahaha.

I always laugh when people say that Kairi needs to choose.
Kairi's choice was obvious from the start of KH1. Sora and Riku on the other hand seem to be fighting, but over who'll not get her. Sora keeps using Kairi as his reason for bringing Riku back in a sense that makes it seem like he's doing it for her (taking care of her while leaving her on DI despite Riku's words = going to bring the guy Sora thinks Kairi's in love with), and even offers her as motivation for Repliku to come back with him, and Riku's an obvious one with the teasing and Paopu and the "take care of her" shiz.
