View Full Version : Annoying new people

There are too many new people on this forum, and it seems that for each one of them this is their first time on a forum. None know how a forum works, and that to re-post the first post in an already 8 page thread is annoying. Someone needs to make it so that when a person joins they MUST know how a forum works before posting. Put it in the rules or put it in with the activation key. There also seems to be no rule agains doulbe or even triple posting as I have seen both and yet they were not admonsished for that outrage. People also keep getting off-topic ALOT. The thread gets to be a few pages long, then some random poster changes the subject and its a new thread! please, if you going to change the subject that it differs greatly from the thread, just make a new thread!

If we could just make it so that they can only post in some sort of "Intoduction/Learn the rules" thread before they start posting in the other sections that would be great. They would be forced to learn the rules of good forum-ing.

Here is something that I think would be in that thread (along with the rules)

1) DO NOT DOUBLE OR TRIPLE POST!

2) please, do not just read the first post and then re-post it, espicially if the thread is over 2 pages long.

3) Try to read the last few posts in a thread, learn what the current conversation is about and then comment on that converstation. If you want to change the converstation to something else, either make it relevant or make a new thread

4) Stay on Topic. If the thread gets too off-topic, make a new thread. Example, if for some reason the "Banana" thread starts talking about Apples, make an Apple thread to get the "Banana" thread back on topic.

i agree with you completely and im sure most of the regular posters here do aswell.
i think they need to understand this is a forum, its different to MSN and chatrooms.

i absolutely agree with you! every time someone does that there should be like a warning sent to them or something

The Rules are clearly stated in two sticky threads. Most people just can't be bothered to look at them and there's nothing we can do about it. There's no way to force people to post in a thread and even if they did they'd probably just skip reading the rules anyway.

How many of you read the entirety of the "License Agreement" or similar when installing a program for example?

Also, even though it can be incredibly annoying when people go off-topic, it's even more annoying when people create completely pointless threads that have no relation to anything, so telling people to create new threads would also be a serious problem.

It's a nice idea, but practically, it would never work.

I agree. We cannot force them... So I guess that if they keep on like this without even reading Mods warnings, well... *points to exit*. At least that's my opinion. It's kind of like a school, you know. (Even though I hate it) If you don't respect rules, you get kicked out.

i read an entire license agreement once, it was pretty useless, and took a while too.
but the rules of a forum take about 5mins to read and if u have questions, u can ask them. the rules here are pretty simple and there is only a few of them. there isnt any legal jargon or really big/complicated words, its pretty straight forward.
new people, please read the rules and remember them.

I know everyones new at some stage, but come on, theres such a thing as common sense. It should be basic understanding that double posting=bad.

Anyways, I agree with Riku, practically it wouldn't work. There are just people out there who think they don't need to read rules.

It would also help if people would start learning to use the search button.

I agree. They need to learn to follow the rules. The rules are there so there wont be any trouble.

yeah, its very annoying when they try to double post and go off topic just to get more posts and become higher up, like member and senior member.

I'm not new and I've followed the rules from the start. I have over 1,500 posts from posting to help people wherever possible :) The only part of the site I don't do that is in Forum Games, and your post count doesn't go up there anyway.

I do think that post count shouldn't go up for the RPG section either, but I doubt that'll be enforced.

It's also really annoying to look at random rants that have no points.
yes the rules need to be enforced, but the mods, supermods, and alex are doing the best they can
this poll needs to be closed

Aelix......its spelled wrong for a reason...thank you for complying.

Ive seen on another Vbullitin forum where you cant do things like look/post in certain threads untill you have X post count. I dont know the inner workings of a Vbulliting forum, but i think we can use that. Make sure they know the rules before they start posting and this place will save me a lot of advil....

btw the other Vbullitin forum is Club Bleach, so if your on that one too...so am i....but its just Aelix there...............

As a new person, I appologize profusely if I have committed any of the above offenses and will be going back over the forums I accessed yesterday to make sure my conduct was acceptable. I have read the rules but I was reading some threads from beginning to end. I thought I was checking to make sure no-one else had answered what I was thinking before posting but I will be very careful in the future. :o

By the way, I found this thread by searching new posts ;)

Not ALL new members are bad, sweetheart. New members are the life-blood of all forums. It's the few that don't have proper manners that make people mad.

Overpopulation is just a side effect of having a popular site. And large populations bring people who do and dont follow rules. Picking and choosing, as much as it would be preferable, is completely impractical.

i think that for eery time that some one double posts or triple post they should get there account suspended for 2 days.so there for i agree with you.

If that happened then at least 1/4th of the sites members could be effective.

Sometimes double post are a result of a computer glitch.

That would be too extreme. There is really no perfect effective way to take action against that.

i am quiteee new here
if not extremely lol
but i have been on many forums before so i know the usual rules and how annoying it is when there are new people that spam and post the same topics over and over and in the wrong spot and all that stuff.
but there are new people that arent completely oblivious to how they tend to work lol
i try and get the feel of a site and their rule and how each site works before i join.
i will admit i dont tend to read the rules
cause i get how they all work in general and what i dont know is pointed out.
but i have been reading the news from this site and saw there was a forum and read some posts and thought this would be a great site to start going to and posting when i get on.
=)

oh sorry, I dont know many of the admins here....they dont seem to post in the sections that i do...oh well. They are still cool. and if one could lock this thread, it would be great! My point was taken, discussed, and now its over and people are talking about how much they are not a n00b, for that you can go to the introduction thread.

Lock please and thank you.
