Well as it shows on the last few pages, the leader is Tobi. Suprising :)

and I still bet that Tobi is Obito, so then Obito is akasuks leader.

and new proof, Obito was an uchiha, and Tobi has the Sharigan.

As it shows on the last page, Tobi's right eye is the sharigan, and he gave his left eye to kakashi.

Which basically means, either if Tobi is Obito or Madara, he has a different goal than that he has told Pein (The believed leader of Akatsuki) to tell the rest of akatsuki. Why else would he secretly enter Akatsuki, and later 'fake' his death when he got his chance?
Bottom line is, Akatsuki is being played by Tobi, therefore Tobi is the most awesome guy ever^^
And Akatsuki sucks 'cause of it :p

Whoever the leader might be for Akatsuki. Honestly, I hope not Obito cuz that too obvious plus he died......... The leader might be Madara Uchica the only person with byuakyan and sharigain blood in his bodies, the only reason I think this is because if oro should passes his soul to another. Could it be that Obito/Tobi Got possesed by Madera... somehow...and became the leader of Akatsuki, also Madera is referenced to have been a rival to the First Shadow, so how could he be alive, and Kyuubi seams to know about him somehow... so Tobi could be a Medara reborn from Obito....

See the thing is, nobody knows WHO Tobi is, Either Madara, and we only think that, because he calls himself that. And we think it's Obito, because he gave his left eye to Kakashi in a deadly battle, And since Kakashi is NOT an Uchiha, he cant control it. That's why he keeps it covered.

But the Leader is NOT Tobi. Tobi only ACTS as the leader, Pein is the leader. But actually, Pein and the unnamed ninja report to Tobi, but who knows? Nobody, that's who.

And also, another rumor is that people think Pein is Naruto's brother. But nobody knows for a fact, I think he might be, but that's just me. They look lodly alike, and maybe, JUST maybe, it's true. Because Pein has red hair, and Naruto's mom has red hair.

Pain IS the leader. And Konan is second in command.

The Akatsuki was meant as a peaceful group. Originally meant to keep the peace. And keep people from harm, until the wrong people started getting recruited. And it was confirmed that only Pain and Tobi himself knew who Tobi really was.

As Tobi is much more powerful than Pain, he took control, making the Akatsuki what he wanted. And his search for the other two Mangekyo Sharringan was put into motion.

Well, Tobi has not been confirmed as Madara, but he refers to himself as Madara. However, the evidence is very convincing that he is Madara.
Pain is the leader by show while Tobi/Madara is the one giving the orders.

He has been raging wildly killing shinobi who walk alone in the night, and many people says he will be the one to finally kill Tsunade with his monkeybanana-sword. He looks something like a mix between Sarutobi and a little chimp, with a huge sharp banana and many small wooden shurikens and kunais. His voice is, so far, all monkey like but a hint of Sarutobis old voice has been detected by blind children with super hearing!
