Default Maybe Edit The Thread Titles? - 05-23-2009, 04:51 AM

I've been to forums that you can edit your own thread, instead of only the moderators and admins just changing your thread title. I find it more organized in a way.

Think about it, if you accidentally put in a wrong thread title, you could just edit it.

Another instance is, to edit the thread to make some updates. Like, there is an American Idol thread. The thread is called American Idol Discussion. Some dude was eliminated, so you can edit the thread title and say: American Idol - 1 Down, 9 More To Go! It kinda builds some hype toward the thread.

Hope I've explained it clearly.

Any opinions, guys?

Use and abuse, we want to teach people to get it right the first time so they don't mess up. If we add this feature chances are our forum will start having discussions in it, like they did with the tags. The moderators have this power because they don't abuse it.

I think its a good idea. I'd like to be able to close my own thread instead of waiting/asking someone else to close it. I don't know if that feature is available on these forums though. The only downside I see to it so far is someone who changes the title too many times to the point that people forget what the topic was about in the first place. I doubt that would happen though. That is until the place gets flooded with KH tards and ninnys. Hopefully Chrono can kick them away. o_o

I understand what you mean, Wzrdto25 and xChaoticxNinjax.

I want to add that if you have some idiotic thread, you can just edit the thread title and put in: Lock this please.

EDIT:

Maybe give users with a certain number of post counts eligibility to do this?

Not possible, its either all the way or none of the way and moderators have powers for those reasons. If we let you open and close your own threads, you'll start doing it just because. Its always an abuse risk.

I'm not talking about opening or closing your OWN thread. I was just talking about editing the thread title. If the edited thread says:

"Lock this."

Then obviously the admin/mod will lock it if it's necessary.

If I misread your post, I'm sorry.

I was responding to chaotixninja. Changing titles is just not needed, you should know what you want to call it right away. Simply pm a mod if you want it closed, we do not close on request either.

Fair enough.

Close if necessary?

In my personal opinion, I believe the incapability members have to employ actions that are restricted and only available to Moderators, is a good way of getting to know the Staff around the place.
If you'd like something changed, closed, or whatever is it that you need, here is what I believe the whole idea consists of;
Moderators are there to help create a better community along with the members. One of their duties is providing the necessary help to members who request it. Lots of members have their first conversation encounter with a Moderator when they Private Message them to seek for something they'd like done -- obviously, politely.
What is it that I am trying to focus on here?
We are at your disposal, guys. We are here for you to bug the crap out of us when you want something done and need us to slave for you, as long as there are valid reasons behind it.

Changing thread titles to, "Lock, please." is a matter, but fronting the risk of having members "play" with their thread titles is something completely foreseeable and something we should not really allow. To be frank, handing infractions around to members because they decide to change their thread titles to a spammy subject at will, which, can perfectly happen, is not something we can be bothered to do 24/7.

Truthfully, I think things are working fine the way they are, but, who knows?
I do not have a 100% valid say regarding this subject, so stay tuned for what other staff members have to add and other members throwing their 2 cents in, for this is my personal view.

:P
