Be sure to also watch between 1:01 and 1:04, when they fire an additional 13 shots for 3 seconds when he's down. You know, just in case.
Cops in this country, oh my god. I know they aren't all like this, but I just want to know what kind of training is done where cops just go trigger happy whenever they freak out for more than two seconds. Also, "I"m effing pissed!" "HALL SEEMS AGITATED". I won't lie, I laughed right there.
IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE... For goodness sake, this just seems to take a page from LAPD's protocols on how to engage the unruly: "Walking forward: It's the same as attacking me."
I really don't understand the use of US police. It's almost as if the fact that cops can bear arms gives them that instant upperhand, and they cannot separate themselves from that dominance and aggressive superiority. From what I have read on this case (a variety of sources, some more liberal, others right-wing), from my perspective there was not enough time spent on trying to get the situation under control. There was nobody in immediate danger — 6 armed officers were under no threat. No civilians in arm's reach. The man was obviously having some kind of mental health-related episode. Nothing can justify the overwhelming [mis]use of firearms, not at all. Disgusting.
The sad part is that this happens all the time, but it isn't always recorded. Fortunately for the Cops, they usually get a slap on the wrist. There was a headline the other day about an off-duty cop pepper-spraying a dog because he felt threatened by it (IT WAS BEHIND A FENCE).
